European Curling Championships

In December 2009 Aberdeen City will host the European Curling Championships.

The Championships will be the final major international curling competition before the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and will bring together more than 50 teams from 30 European nations to compete for both the men's and women's titles.

Since 1998 when curling became an official sport in the Winter Olympic Games, curlers and non-curlers alike have gathered to watch Scottish men and women creating sporting history in winning a number of medals, including Rhona Martin's team success at the Winter Olympics in 2002, where they captured the nations' hearts in winning gold.

More recently, in the men's game, Scotland has won the European title in 2003, 2007 and 2008 and were crowned World Champions in 2006 and 2009. This is truly a sport in which Scotland excels and we can be very proud of our competitors.

The Event
The Championships will be held from Friday, 4th to Saturday, 12th December with 180 games being played in two venues: the newly refurbished Aberdeen Linx Ice Arena will host the top 10 Men's and 10 Women's teams in the A League. The B League will play at the state-of-the art Curl Aberdeen rink. The event culminates with a closing medal ceremony at the Linx Ice Arena followed by Dinner and Final Night Party on Saturday, 12th December at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen.
